I was told that the only remedy would be an expensive and risky operation or maybe having to take heavy-duty painkillers for the rest of my life. It took nearly a whole day for my husband to put the Schwinn 240 together for me.  We don’t call him Speedy for nothing! But when he’d finished I knew straight away this was going to become one of my favorite things.

My new Sunny Health & Fitness Pro Indoor Cycling Bike is a great midrange exercise bike comparable to others that cost a lot more. It performs as well as any commercial machine I have used at a gym. I also like that it can be adjusted easily. My wife and teenage son both use it regularly. It does lack a loss of the gizmos that more expensive machines have but we have always used a portable heart monitor anyway which tend to be more accurate than those that operate through handrails.

It was delivered quickly and assembly didn’t take long at all. I was a little worried about the packaging when it arrived as it had taken some serious abuse but after a quick check all was well.

It has a substantial 40 pound flywheel and weighs just over 100 pounds, meaning it doesn’t wobble around when you’re legs are flying up and down!

Being 6’2” I always had difficulty with treadmill beds, they just weren’t long enough.  I purchased the Smooth Fitness 7.35 because of the longer belt and I was also swayed by the excellent warranty on parts and electronics. Seven years is about double the length of time that treadmills usually last.

I have no complaints at all about this puppy. It runs quietly, the bed is comfortable and I barely hear a squeak from it.  The controls are very responsive when changing incline and speed.

I figured if I was going to invest this much money into a treadmill I would have it brought straight into the house where I wanted it. Glad I did. Even my neighbor and I couldn’t have moved it easily – this thing weighs about 250 pounds.

I owned a real Schwinn bicycle when I was younger and I guess that influenced me to buy a Schwinn exercise bike all these years later.  I killed the last exercise bike I had – that was an early Schwinn too. So after many years of happy exercising it finally started showing its age and mileage so I decided it was time for a new one.

I did find building my new Schwinn 150 a bit of a challenge. I don’t know if I’m just getting old or the instructions didn’t seem all that clear. After a few confusing phone calls to the company I enlisted my nephew to do it for me.  I’m glad he did. It took him ages but when he’d finished I was very pleased. Why don’t they just include a DVD?

Small point I know but the extra-wide saddle makes riding a lot more comfortable and the improved choice of programs can give me hours of challenging exercise to look forward to. I also like the larger display monitor – great for us older users and it’s easily adjustable if someone else rides the bike, as are the seat and handlebars.

I was really upset after I put this machine together, every time I took a step I could hear an annoying clunking sound.  My fault – I can’t blame the machine. Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings User Review

First of all I’m going to start out with my biggest gripe about the Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System and that’s how it arrives and how extremely poor the instructions are. Luckily if you have any engineering ability like me you can pretty much figure it out on your own. At one point I attempted to get in touch with their customer service but gave up trying to resolve the problem I was having.

Nonetheless the parts are solid and after a day of having the system spread out all over my basement floor I finally managed to put it together. It’s not quite commercial grade but I find it extremely adequate. It has a full complement of attachments too.

I couldn’t afford the top of the line Smith system I really wanted but this is proving to be good value for money. The steel rails and sealed ball bearing system gives a very smooth workout and I’m impressed with the 2000 pound tensile strength cables.

The bench is easily adjustable. I made the mistake of tightening up the knob too hard at first which isn’t necessary.

Bottom Line

Take the time to put the Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings together correctly and you’ll end up with a rock solid home system that’s nearly as good as anything you’ll find in a gym for a third of the price.
